So, I guess it's time to start blogging again. Forget school, it seems there are more interesting things transpiring!

Canadians are now being given the opportunity to deliver change in government. From the tired old, corrupt liberals; to the new and positive Conservatives! Canadians now have the chance to elect a government that represents all citizens!

Martin has had years to build a record, but after 12 years in power, the Liberals leave nothing but waste, corruption, and a culture of entitlement in Ottawa.

Harper on the other hand, offers a vision for the future - concise ideas for the next generation...and I can't wait to have him as our next Prime Minister.

Let's get cracking on a new government! See you out there!

Peter MacKay at Carleton U!

So last night, Carleton hosted three MP's to discuss the pressing issues of the day with students - and wow - did Peter Mackay ever run the show.

First of all, the audience was mostly composed of young conservatives, there were at least 30 of us out...by far the strongest campus club representation amongst the three parties. But secondly, and more importantly, the debate wasn't even close!

I felt sorry for Mr. Bains, the lone liberal sent out to carry the flag. I mean, the NDP had Judy W-L - a very imposing figure despite her size, and we sent our Deputy Leader...why didn't the Liberals send an MP who has some relevance (with all due respect to Mr. Bains, who did a decent job of excusing the inexcusable)?

Of course discussion centered around Gomery, and how the Liberals have now, factually, stolen millions of taxpayers dollars; and I must say that students were not impressed - and I'll tell you how I know that...

After the debate, there were close to 50 students in line to speak with Mr. Mackay, while the Liebral and NDP scooted off campus within minutes of the debate ending. Now, to me, that speaks volumes about Carleton students, when the CONSERVATIVE MP IS THE MOST POPULAR!

Times are a changin' my friends - the Conservatives are looking stronger, and more popular than ever before; and to all my liberal friends who I saw last night in the audience, I hope you have your life jackets on, because the goodship liberal is sinking. I guess too many of you tried to crowd onto the poop deck.

Paul Martin and his cabinet have consistently told Canadians one thing, while they do another. Time after time, we have been subjected to double standards and half truths.

Think of Uj telling Canadians that privatized healthcare has not exanded under Paul Martin, think of McCallum telling Canadians that the government was legally required to pay dingwall a severance - think of volpe telling Canadians that the stripper import program was shut down.

God forbid this country try and fast track health professionals, students, or other skilled labour. I mean, don't get me wrong - all people no matter their profession should have an opportunity to immigrate to this great country.

What I do have a problem with though, is fast tracking people who take their clothes off for money. Why are their claims to citizenship being fast tracked over the justifiable claims of members of society who will better our country?

The worst part of this story though, is that Volpe claimed to have shut down the program...but no, we later find out that the peeler pipeline is still intact!

I would call our minister of immigration a boob - but he may take it as a slur towards his italian-canadian heritage. So I think maybe I'll hold my tounge.

Unmasking Gomery

So with Halloween just around the corner, and the Gomery Report Part One set to be released on tuesday, I think a Gomery recap is in order; so here are is a brief timeline of sponsorship events...

A Timeline of Events

1995
Having narrowly escaped defeat in the Quebec sovereignty referendum, Ottawa launches a supposedly national pro-federalism advertising and sponsorship campaign.

2000
An internal audit at Public Works showed that sponsorship programs were not being properly tracked. The Liberals responded by hiding Adscam in a new agency, Communications Canada, with even fewer monitoring systems.

2002
Paul Martin received a letter from Akaash Maharah, the National Policy Chair for the Liberal Party, warning “there are persistent and growing rumours that funds from the sponsorship programme are being diverted to partisan purposes…” Paul Martin chose to do nothing.

The Opposition called for a Public Inquiry into the sponsorship program.

2003
The Auditor General’s report on Sponsorship is ready in November. Instead of releasing it, the Liberals prorogue Parliament for no reason, delaying the release of the report.

2004
The Auditor General’s report is released in February. The Liberals now call for the public inquiry they said was never necessary to find the truth.

In May, Liberals close down the Public Accounts Committee before key witnesses like Jean Brault are scheduled to appear. An election is called soon after, before the Gomery Inquiry hears a single witness.

In June, election called and Gomery hears no witnesses.

September 7 testimony begins at the public inquiry, led by Justice John Gomery.
The first witness is Auditor General Sheila Fraser. The AG revealed that the federal sponsorship program ran for years without ever being mentioned in the Public Works department's annual performance reviews.

October 29, former Public Works Minister Alfonso Gagliano tells CBC Television that Martin, then finance minister, was fully aware of the creation of the sponsorship program, and as a cabinet minister, should have known about its implementation. "He was there. He participated and he agreed – all the ministers agreed with that strategy," said Gagliano. "It's nice and dandy now to say, oh, I didn't know anything."

2005
February 8, Chretien appears at Gomery, defends the Sponsorship program as a tool of national unity, and mocks the inquiry with his infamous “golf ball display”. Paul Martin later hails Chretien before the Liberal caucus and leads them in a standing ovation for his performance.

February 10, Paul Martin testifies at Gomery making no opening statement. He failed to tell Canadians what he knew and he sought out others as scapegoats (Chretien, Bureaucrats).

August 16, Paul Coffin pleads guilty on fraud charges and repays $1 million of taxpayer’s money illegally received as part of the sponsorship scandal. Crown appealing his sentence.

September 19, Paul Coffin receives a conditional sentence of two years minus a day to be served in the community.

November 1, First Report due by Justice John Gomery.

So Dingwall proclaims his innocence this afternoon.

Bogus.

What bugs me most though, are the possible headlines this gives the liberals.

I still can't see how a bankok massage is a legitimate use of tax dollars.

Sounds like Dingwall is trying real hard to tug this story out of the gutter by threatening to sue. Call me cynical, but there's got to be a rub to this story somewhere.

Meanwhile, get Harper into 24 Sussex - this has gone on long enough.

It is great to see that this petition drive, which was kicked off at Carleton with the help of our campus club has spread so quickly...

Okay, so I know that people make mistakes. That's just part of being human.

But having said that, I would HOPE that a Senator representing Canada, would have more brainpower than evidenced by Liberal appointee Larry Miller.

In an interview, he told Canadians that the 'drug epidemic' revolving around Crystal Meth in Vancouver was "garbage".

Garbage, Larry? You're an intelligent guy...why would you say such a thing!? Perhaps it takes some time to get used to PMO talking points...

I think that drug addiction is a serious problem. It's not something that can be dismissed as 'garbage'. What I think is worse though, is a government program that provides addicts with the tools they need to get high.

While Larry was Mayor of Vancouver, drug usage did not go down - nor did it even remain at a constant level. But it went UP, and I suspect that might have something to do with easy access to paraphenalia.

Of course there are many arguments for the provision of drug tools, many of which deal with public health - and I'm not a doctor so I can't dismiss the idea all together. But what I can do, is argue for a more responsible approach to dealing with addiction to dangerous drugs; and I think if we put more money into education, rehabilition, and front line policing, we as a country would be a lot better off.

Oh, and we'd be better off if we stopped appointed Senators to the Upper Chamber who dismiss dangerous drug addictions as "garbage".

Call me crazy, but aren't those terms reserved for describing Liberal policy?

As a kid, one of the only TV ads that stuck with me was one for french's mustard. It's got a guy teaching a self defence class so that the students can protect their sandwiches, and the buzz line was "BACK OFF...GET YOUR OWN SANDWICH!"

I think it still has relevance today, because someone needs to beat Paul Martin of the Conservative agenda. I think Paul Martin has run out of rhetoric, believe it or not, because he's now leaking his 'broad based' tax cut platform. I think he means, he's leaking the Conservative agenda.

Man, that pisses me off.

So it's been a while since my last posting, but MUCH has been accomplished in that time.

First things first, I'd like to point out how great Alberta is. First we refund $400 to citizens in Alberta, and now we donate 5 million to Katrina relief. It's not the money, it's the symbolism in the gift that matters, and I think Martin would be advised to take notes.

Next up, Martin is corrupt. Yeah we knew that...

Stephen Harper came out with an AMAZING policy last week, that I thought was grossly undercovered by our media. It's aimed directly at young Canadians, and getting them jobs in the trades. Being a university student, I see the need for workplace diversity every single day - and applaud the effort by Harper.

So, we've all known for a long time that the Liberals led by Paul Martin are liars, thieves, and cheats. However, up until this point, we did not have independent confirmation that they were incapable of enforcing laws.

Yet, for over a year, Paul Martin allowed a website to issue fake gun permits.

Now, I could easily babble on about how this is ridiculous, bush league, and how unsurprising it is of the liberals. But I won't.

I think the evidence is piling up. Paul Martin gives his cronies 500 000 severance packages after they resign for abuse of the public purse, Paul Martin has no original public policy, Paul Martin lies about speaking to families of murdered RCMP officers about marijuana laws and minimum sentences, Paul Martin has a Minister who takes a driver on an international trip, without him driving anywhere, a Minister who eats through thousands of dollars in a few months.

Is this who you want running our country? The time is now for Harper.

Look, you seemed like an okay guy. But then you keistered a 50 000 dollar ring while you were an MP. That was sketchy. No doubt about it, but hey, you claimed that you were under intense stress and pressure.

Who am I to judge?

You did the right thing, you resigned when you were caught (cough, cough, Liberals take notes) and you exited stage left. Things were cool after you faded into obscurity.

But now, you're talking about a political comeback; and I must protest. First and foremost Svend, what's this business of collecting TEN GRAND from the RCMP?

You go protest capitalism, or some ridiculous thing, get teargassed, and then sue?!
Come on man! You should have the wisdom to know that if a mob starts to go wild, the police are going to start firing junk into the crowd!! It's not even like you were trampled by a mob...you got a hole ripped in your protest pants! Don't you dress for these events assuming that you're going to be either dragged away, shot at, or soaked with something? Wouldn't that be an example of forethought?

Now, I'm not condoning the extreme use of police violence, or anything near that. But if you want to be a legitimate Member of Parliament who represents our country, then you can't be in the middle of a pack of university students crying about how nike makes their shoes, or whatever the hell it was that you were moaning about.

So, here's the bottom line: stay away from ottawa. You had a good run, you made some money off the RCMP, now just go.

I mean, I'd really like it for my girlfriend to be able to wear her rings and earrings around town without fear of theft. Hmm...that was mean.

Oh well. Go protest, maybe you too can make 10 000.

The Conservatives are building steam for the next election, and Harper is on a roll.

While the media looks for reasons to rip him apart, Canadians are looking for a way to elect him.

I think today will be a long day for Paul.

First of all, it has been revealed that Earnscliffe has been awarded over TEN MILLION DOLLARS in government grants since the liberals took power. Two million of these dollars came from the Department of Finance while Paulie was the head beancounter. But what is more concerning to me is that (according to the Ottawa Citizen):

"In 16 of 25 cases, Earnscliffe was determined to be the only firm capable of doing work described as "strategic communication advice" or "other professional services not otherwise specified."

That's totally bogus, or maybe more fitting, it's complete fraud and it's disgraceful to our country. You're telling me that our country has only one company capable of doing such 'complex' work? Again Paul, where is your faith in our entrepreneurial spirit? Don't you trust ordinary Canadians to do good work?

I know that this issue has been beaten worse than the Maple Leafs come playoff time, but since when do we, as a functioning Canadian democracy allow this to happen!? Excuses be damned. Paul needs to go, and we haven't even touched on the Dingwall graft!

David Dingwall, the former Chretien era cabinet minister, turned 'losing politician appointee' to the Mint has expensed taxpayers for things such as a golf membership, and a 5700 dollar meal! As always, I have some understanding for such expenses, after all, you have to look the part of president. But realistically, taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for almost a MILLION DOLLARS of perks...it's not like you're even in command of a elected cabinet portfolio anymore...you're the head of the mint Dingwall!

You know, you expect this type of accounting from a student government like CUSA, but not from a member of the G8.

Governor General subordinate to PMO...

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Governor General the representative of the Queen in Canada; who in turn (at least in theory) is the head of our Government?

Isn't it also true that the Monarchy and all of its representatives stay (or at least try to stay) politically neutral?

If so, why then, in the name of everything sacred is the Prime Minister's Office dictating the details of the new GG's inaugural reception!?

What a disgrace you are Paul, insisting that you have a thumb in every pie that leads to a photo op. Since you are our Prime Minister, shouldn't your staff be doing more than planning cocktail parties for our Governor General?

Where is your plan to help out Canadian consumers with the price of gas? Where is your plan to lower the cost of riding the bus for university students? Where is your plan to meet the environmental demands of Canadians? Where is your plan to solve the softwood lumber dispute?

We all know that you can plan a party, and I'm sure you have an irrefutable plan of attack to get around those journalists in order to get to the dessert cart, but what about the issues that matter most to Canadians?

I guess we should be thankful that we have Harper, because today in Parliament the Conservatives were the only party looking for answers...and if you don't believe me, look for yourself

Adscam meet Gun Registry

I suppose it would be too much of a stretch to say that Paul Martin might finally have to bite the bullet and face the voting public on his atrocious management of the Gun Registry...but that would probably be too corny for most.

So instead of making puns, how about we cross our fingers and hope that Sheila Fraser finally drops the hammer on the Liberals once and for all? Paul might have convinced Belinda to jump from the goodship Harper to the CSL poopdecks, but he can't run from his record forever.

In other Martin news, it looks like he is once again trying to drum rhetoric to unheard of levels, by once again claiming that 'Canadians deserve to know the whole truth from Gomery, before going to the polls'.Is this the same Paul Martin who single handedly called an election in 2004, despite making the same claim?

Of course they deserve the whole truth Paul! That's why Canada needs Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party to clean up this mess!

In what has become a tragic inside joke amongst my friends, I have become addicted to coverage of the Natalee Holloway case. Don't get me wrong...there is nothing funny about a girl being kidnapped...but 'round the clock coverage of her on CNN and Fox News is.

Since Katrina and Rita have hit however, her coverage has been waning on the major news channels, and I have been forced to find my information elsewhere. Anyhow, in what has become a public shaming for the Aruban Government, and police force, the suspected rapists/murderers have been released AGAIN from custody!

In fact, one of them has even left the country!

Thank god I don't live in a country where the government can cover up crime by simply whitewashing the facts...oh that reminds me, go here.

Now, as far as political patience goes, I like to think that I have quite a bit of it. I don't expect everyone to believe what I believe, or value what I value. In fact, I place a great deal of importance on civic responsibility, and voting, regardless of who it is for. Hell, I live with a couple of leftists.

Having said that however, I do expect people to carry themselves with some class, and show respect to people who believe in things that you do not.

Unfortunately, last night, I witnessed yet another reason to dismiss an on campus organization called OPIRG (Ontario Public Interest Research Group) as a useless bunch of spoiled, backyard gadflies. I'll give them some credit: they were respectful enough of guest lecturer General Hillier to keep their bong-holes quiet until question period. But when the mics opened up, so too did the LSD inspired conspiracy theories. One mental 'big wig' even managed to demand the resignation of the General before he was curtly rebuffed.

To be quite frank, had I not been so embarassed, I might have laughed. But these bufoons tarnished the image of both our school, and our military.

So what is my point? Am I pissed that a bunch of sububuranite rebels tried to shanghai an otherwise informative and enlightening speech by a great Canadian? Sure. But what bothers me even more, is that these students are so ignorant to the beliefs and values of others, that they allowed themselves, and their peers to devolve into shouting fools.

You know what, my patience has run out. Go get a haircut, maybe get a job, and stop pretending that you're smarter than me because you read a Noam Chomsky book while I was out partying with friends. Just because you feel the need to dress in combat boots, plaster yourself in facial piercings, and wrap yourself in black sheets, don't take it out on me, or the other people who want to hear someone important speak.

PS - wearing speedstick isn't an endorsement of capitalism, even a social rebel/guerilla/communist/free thinker can wear deodorant! I promise, you won't become a successful imperialist because you stop smelling like shoes and old yogurt. So next time, before you roll out and start 'sewing the seeds of political discontent'how about you open your ears and eyes, so that the rest of us aren't forced to put up with your bitter ramblings.

1) most political science professors are so far left, they shame jack layton.
2) most journalism professors are public cheerleaders for the cbc.

Having said that, maybe someone can explain to me how it's appropriate for the SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM to send out the following email to students:

To the Students and Faculty at the School of Journalism and Communication:
On behalf of the Canadian Media Guild in Toronto, I'd like to thank all
students and faculty who will be joining the CBC Ottawa picket line on
Thursday to show your support for locked out workers at the CBC.

We also wanted to let you know about another BIG event happening on Monday,
September 26th, to coincide with the resumption of Parliament.

Several hundred locked out CBC employees from across Ontario will be setting
up a picket line in front of Parliament Hill, and inviting MPs and the
public to come out and show their support.

We know that as prospective journalists and communication scholars, you
share our concern for both the future of public broadcasting, and for the
future of the very careers upon which you are now embarking.

It's also a great chance for you to speak directly to CBC journalists and

Am I wrong to say that this email is inappropriate? Why should students be encouraged to disrupt the business of the nation, by picketing Parliament Hill?! For the first, and last time, I am confident in saying that I agree with Mr. Moore - PLEASE DO NOT AIR HIS MOVIE!!!

Yet, today, the Montreal Gazette has found evidence that directly contradicts our Prime Ministers claim.

Paul is good at espousing rhetoric, and is especially good at fear mongering in order to avoid facing his contradictions; however, I'd really like to see what he pulls out of his hat this time to avoid facing his record.

We've already heard him claim that Conservatives are out to destroy Canada, we've already seen the television ads that melt our flag and point a gun at the viewer, and we've seen him buy out opposition MP's to stay in power.

You know, if this was the first time Paul was caught in the gaping hole between what he says, and what he does; I might be understanding...but this is a man who habitually stretches the truth to stay in power.

Promises be damned, integrity...who needs it? I'm sorry Paul, you ask me to choose my Canada, and I choose Stephen Harper.

Paul Martin was recently in New York at the United Nations to discuss international aid, the reformation of the UN, etc.; but before heading down he had these words for the Edmonton Journal (on June 30th 2005):

It's not like he gutted healthcare funding in the 90's, and it's not as if he buys out opposition members with cabinet positions! Give the guy some credit...or don't, and vote for Harper!

Today has been busy on this blog!

Okay, so I was finishing my morning reading online, and I happened upon the Calgary Sun...this is a beauty people!

I guess, Paul Martin had time last night to call the winner of Canadian Idol!

I find it funny that our Prime Minister has time to call the winner of a knock off network tv contest, but refuses to call the most powerful leader in the world in order to settle a massive trade dispute impacting the very people who elected him!

You know, I wouldn't be surprised to see Melissa O'Neil (latest Canadian 'pop star') to be offered a seat in cabinet in the coming weeks!! Paul's already stocked his shelves with a goalie, a washed up NDP Premiere, a founding father of the Bloc Quebecois, and a pair of Tory turncoats, how could a lip syncing Ashlee Simpson wannabe hurt his cause?

I just finished reading the Citizen, and let me just say that I wouldn't even wrap a fish with it today!

The editorial staff might think that today's piece is constructive criticism, or even friendly advice - however it's not. It's nothing but a myopic and superficial attack on a man who would rather stand up for ideas and legitimate debate, than graft, lies, and bribery.

If the editorial staff at the Citizen really thinks that Canada "needs a credible alternative to the perpetually governing Liberals" perhaps they should consider any one of the major policy announcements made by Mr. Harper this summer; such as the Transit Policy, or the Pine Beetle announcement for BC.

As for leadership quality, I scoff at any comparison between our Prime Minister and Mr. Harper. Quite frankly, Mr. Harper has shown more leadership for Canadians with his advocacy for softwood lumber than Paul Martin has in any other single portfolio.

Call the editorial today what you will; I call it uninformed...so I guess you could say that it would be the perfect Liberal voter: an uninformed citizen!

Campus Recruitment!!

Anyone who says that the youth of Canada are becoming more liberal should really come check out the Carleton campus, (of all places!) because we've got a Conservative Campus Club that proves otherwise. We recently held a recruitment event, and our numbers were unbelievable. First year students were ten deep in line to sign up for the club! Meanwhile, I think the NDP 'spaced'on the recruitment date and the Liberals just assumed people would join them - because we were the only political campus club there! How can you be a voice of the people if you don't speak to the people?

It's clear that Stephen Harper and the party are doing something right when the membership and participation of university students is through the roof.

If the CPC and Harper were really as unpopular as the media decries, why is it then, that students (who stereotypically are whiners demanding free education, lovers of Che, and inhalers of Chomsky) are leading the charge to elect a new, Conservative Government!?

It's simple: we are the future of this country, and we don't want to inherit the Paul Martin legacy of dithering and corruption.

Welcome everyone to the Ottawa Young Conservatives blog forum!

Hopefully, as time goes on we will become an online resource for those of us who can't stand the bolshevik ramblings of campus lefties!

We're based out of Carleton University, but welcome any Ottawa area young conservatives to throw in their two cents! Of course, we're never going to limit blogs based on their geography, afterall I'm from Calgary, and can't stand regional alienation!
